Progress report update
Hey everyone,
We're already in March! As annouced in the development roadmap, I'm now taking a short break from DreamWalker in order to deliver the last Pacifier Project update.
This break isn't for nothing though,as it allow to work behind the curtain on major visuals for the character models (hairs,clothes,animations....).So, while the main game development is on a short break, the big picture is still progressing.
Let's look for a bit where we're standing right now, right before the break.
Visuals
Since the last update, the game progressed a lot on that part ! The city first district layout is mostly done, and the interiors of the first hour of the game as well. For now, they are very barren, because I'm waiting for a bit more feedback from the playtest sessions, so I can avoid having to overhaul a big part of a level. Right now, the idea is to get the broad picture mostly in place, then complete the details later when things feel good. Again, this is a very different way of working than for the Pacifier Project, but I believe it will be far more efficient in the long road ahead.
The skybox and clouds also got updated, to make it dynamic and follow the day/night cycle.
Story and Quest
The onboarding section of the game, the first few minutes, is progressing well. The goal is to introduce you slowly to the major gameplay elements of the game : going to bed, changing clothes, going to classes...without overwelming you. For example, the clock is static during the first day, and it progress only when you finish major millestones so nobody feel rushed. The goal for the demo will be to have the first day, the first night, then a sandbox world for the second day on, while the real game later on will expand the story on the subsequents days.
Character model
Since the last time, some animations work have been done on the character model. The most important we've done, though, is the cloth morphing part, meaning the clothes adapt to the body customization. This was by far the most challenging and trickier part I've done so far in a game, hence why it took a few months. On the bright side, this being done mean there's no more major roadblock left here, and we're currently filling that dresser with clothes!
ABDL elements
Theses last weeks were also the opportunity to work on the ABDL features of the game. The whole equipment system has been done, totally changed from the Pacifier Project. In DreamWalker, you'll be able to change clothes only in your room or around a locker, meaning that the gameplay will revolve around managing your state and reputation. Since you can't change on the fly, visible accidents will be harder to manage, and NPCs will react and adjust your global reputation if they see you with wet pants. The goal of this feature is to make the daily gameplay revolve a bit more about ABDL management, so you will have an incentive to not leak in public for example.
I also started to build the whole diaper, leak and toilet mecanism, with a procedural pee stream that will have shader applied to it. The diaper itself is far more versatile than in the PacifierProject, and is able to be both wet and messy at the same time.
All in all, I'm making great progress in every directions! The demo release is,obviously, still a long time ahead, but I'm happy about the pace and, more importantly, the global improvement in quality.
With that all said, see you in a few months for a new progress report!
