About the ongoing events

Heya everyone,

A lot of you may already be aware that patreon is currently doing a giant purging of all diaper related content. While my page is still up for now, I don't know if it's gonna be the case tomorrow, or even in one hour. I think at this point it's a matter of "when" and not "If".

A lot of others creators didn't have that luck, and the whole situation is obviously completely messed up.  There's isn't any amount of trust left in patreon on my side, obviously. For now, here's the latest news on my side.

About the game

Obviously I'm continuing to work on it. It may get a bit slower in the coming days/weeks as I'll need to dedicate time to sort out things here, but there's no question about it. I may skip some devlogs, but I don't see any major setback on that side.

About the patreon page

I don't think I'm out of the wood just because the page got through the past day. Another ban wave in the coming days/weeks is totally on the table, and even so, I'm not gonna torture myself going to bed every night wondering if my page will get nuked while I'm asleep. So, either way, I'm out. If the page survive, I'll probably use the coming month to sort things out, warn everyone, and take the time to do things properly before moving out. So, starting January, I'll see you on another place.

About the future

This is the greatest question mark. Let's be honest, patreon is popular because it's convenient, and it's hard to find a place that will replicate it fully. A lot of options are on the table:

  • SubscribeStar
  • Ko-Fi
  • Ream
  • Fanbox
  • A self hosted website
  • and probably a billion more options...

All of theses have caveats. Most of theses have stricts guidelines that could expose us to the same situation. The self-hosted website is probably the best bet but will need a lot of work and money to keep afloat, and is at risk of being totally forgotten in front of others, majors platforms. So, in truth, I don't know yet. I'll probably check what the others creators are doing and decide accordingly. Don't hesitate to reach me out if you know of some option that could be interesting.

For now, the main place if you want to hear news will stay patreon first until the page get nuked, which might be very soon,or until I close it myself. And of course, right here, on Itch, which will be the bunker place in any case.

So that's the news for now ! I'm gonna see daily how things evolve, and take action from here. Until then, take care.  The whole situation suck, but I'm sure the community as a whole will gain something from it.  Thanks a lot for your support.

Cheers.

Well, at least your game is still up. ABDLMiah's games and Littleington University are both unable to be viewed and Gauche's Twitter and Patreon now say "Gone Fishin'" much like the accounts of the fired Bungie employees.

Also, slightly off topic but how far along until the next public update?

Yeah, I consider myself quite lucky, and I know a lot of others didn't had that luxury. Still, we don't know what patreon is up too, and I can very well get hit in the following days.

As for the public release, we're close to it but not yet. Obviously this whole mess slowed things down a bit. I would have wanted to have something ready for the new year, but I don't think it will be ready for that, so  a conservative estimate would be a couple more month. The next public release will be a quite polished one so I want to make sure things are done well.

You moving to SubscribeStar or Fanbox? I don't think Ko-Fi actually allows content like this game...

Well. I hope it actually doesn't slow it down too much. It'd be funny if you manage to knock most of the stuff out in a short amount of time but don't Crunch yourself  trying to finish the game. That's how Studios die, Spiritually or Physically, and how the Devs also sort of lose their Light.

Probably Subscribestar as this will be the less painless but I'll communicate soon over that.

It won't slow down too much, gladly. Thanks for your support. I'll take care of myself, this is a passion project and I'm set on finishing it.

From what I can tell, it seems many other creators impacted by this have moved to either PIxiv Fanbox, SubscribeStar, or both.

I would imagine SubscribeStar to be the easiest to transition to from Patreon, as it is the most similar, and they are okay with NSFW content generally. I'm not sure what their stance is on the AB/DL theme in particular though.

The crux of the issue isn't necessarily Patreon or similar sites, but rather the banks, payment processors, and so on, which have the strict policies in place of what they will and won't accept.

These entities hold funding hostage, even from the big name sites like Patreon, if they don't play by their rules. And in terms of adult content, such rules are often prudish, outdated, and discriminatory.

Thanks for your input. SubscribeStar sound like the most popular option, but I'm very warry because I heard very concerning things about it and fetish content (even if vanilla NSFW is somewhat okay), and like you pointed out, I feel like it could get into the same situation given the payments processors behind are probably the same.

The issue I'm having is going for a less popular option (either an accepting provider or a website that I'll manage myself) will definitely draw less people toward it simply by the virtue of going for a less know headline. Hence, I fear that I'll have to choose between audience and safety. I'm still giving myself some time for things to cool down before making my choice, but every input is valuable.

Overdoll (https://overdoll.com/creators) (Help Page: https://overdoll.com/help) seems promising for digital artists, and I assume it could work for game creators as well, but it is currently invite-only, so I'm not sure it's quite ready for widespread adoption just yet. You could give it a try though and see if they allow you onto the platform? Their ToS and Community Guidelines both seem pretty reasonable and accepting. They apparently use Paxum (https://www.paxum.com/) for payment processing.

If it fully opens its doors someday to public registration, it may be a very viable option in the future, as there are no upfront costs for creators to use their platform, and they only take a fee of sales instead. For now though, it may just be like you mentioned of going with a payment processor that allows adult content, even if they are not as well integrated online.

It's a strange situation really. There needs to be a payment processor that's okay with taking "high risk" adult content related payments and dealing with the high rate of chargebacks etc. but that's also well integrated into various online platforms right next to Paypal, Stripe, and so on, to make it as easy as possible for people to choose it on the more popular sites and services. I'm sure it's all more complicated than I understand though, easier said than done.

I'll look into overdoll and paxum as possible options. Thanks for your researchs !

Ko-Fi doesn't like anything NSFW so I think kink stuff might be a no go there as well, good luck going to a new platform!

I was gonna support you man, Goddamn it!

Ive seen at least 2 game creators use www.blogger.com for their site, but their content is TF/TG content and they still have a Patreon site as well.
