[Devlog] Current WIP 33


Hey everyone,

Today I want to share some old areas that I'm reworking. Since the beginning of the project, I improved a lot my workflow for building places and areas, and that mean some of the very firsts area I built were getting a little out of place.


First, I gave the player's home a new look,  giving it a new floor and gave it a more vibrant style. Now, while this is still distinct from the "overworld" in a sense that the level is loaded completely elsewhere to not load everything at once, I love the background implementation of the scenery. I think the game feel way more immersive like that.


Next, I rewamped the library. This will be a place that will host a quest for the main storyline down the line, so it was important to update it. Same as the home, I made it "part" of the city to improve immersion. I'm quite happy about the floor's balcony that give a deep view of the ground floor under it, it make the place feel less claustrophobic and cramped.


Finally, the mall store and the supermarket were also getting pretty old and rough. I adopted the same approach, while also giving it a first floor balcony and a glass ceiling to make it feel open. While I'm at it, I'm finally planning how to wrap up the side quest about the arcade - some of you might have finished that quest nearly a year ago and it didn't progress much since then. I have a few ideas on how I'll proceed from there that might get interesting!


To close up on the stores side, I decided to make the burger and the coffee shop in the city center a whole part of the world. It didn't make sense that there were in their own level because they are very small, so this will ensure there's less annoying loading time.

That's it for now, that's a lot of places updated but I think the changes are worth it !
